About Us

The Seventh day Hospital, Ottapalam is situated among the lush green mountain view of 33 acres rocky land with teak and jack groves at Kanniyampuram. It is well known for breath taking, serene atmosphere that soothens the hearts and minds of every visitor. This is an exquisite place of seasonal birds and the awesome beauty of the peacock families and many other forest inmates of which you can’t afford to miss.

The SDA Hospital at Ottapalam is a 160 bedded multispecialty hospital at Palakkad district. It is well known for the caring attitude and Christian compassion that is reflected by the staff for its spiritual nurture. This is a pioneer charitable mission hospital which was established in 1968 by the missionaries from Seventh day Adventist Church. Most noted and well admired missionary was Dr. Mary.L.Small who served for thirteen years in Obstetrics & Gynecology and is remembered fondly for her sacrificial services by the residents of Ottapalam. As pioneers of this institution, the unselfish services of Dr. K.A Paulson Yesudian and Dr. K.P George in the field of Medicine and Surgery respectively is greatly appreciated. The meritorious services of the hospital have been recognized and commended by the government officials of Kerala. The hospital believes in sharing God’s love to all by providing physical, mental and spiritual healing.

The SDA School of Nursing has been in operation since 2001 with the accreditation of Kerala Nurses & Midwives Council and Indian Nursing Council. It has exhibited its excellence in training skilled nurses who have shouldered various responsibilities. A total of about 150 GNM graduates have successfully marched out to serve as nursing professionals around the globe. In order to meet the health demands of the society, management has planned to upgrade the School of Nursing to College of Nursing.

The management acknowledges the contributions made by the Southern Asia Division, Medical Trust, South West India Union and North Kerala Section of SDA. The generosity of Loma Linda University and all other donors is well appreciated. The untiring efforts of the Honarable MLA of Ottapalam Shri. M. Hamza, and Dr. Johns K Mangalam, Managing Trustee Punarjani, Thrissur in the establishment of SDA College of Nursing is acknowledged.

Mission

The Mission of Seventh Day Adventist College of Nursing is to nurture and to mould young minds in the healing ministry, where they become responsible, knowledgeable and trained professionals to assist the sick in recovery by promoting preventive and remedial measures for the wholistic living of man. Our example is the healing ministry of Jesus Christ.

Philosophy

  • The Seventh Day Adventist college of Nursing, Ottapalam believes in providing a wholistic health care training through the BSc Nursing Degree program with a highly standardized academic curriculum, augmented with the fundamental principles of Adventist health care system.
  • Nursing is an integral part of the health care service and share responsibility in collaborations with other allied health professions for attainment of optimal health for all members of the society without any discrimination.
  • Education is a lifelong learning process. It seeks to render quality and acceptable behavioural changes in the students in order to become competent health care professionals, so that they can become socially relevant and individually content.
  • The faculty of Nursing is committed to impart quality in teaching, demonstrating, the principles involved in the nursing care executed through the services and exercise while they prepare the academic curriculum and Master plan for the students.
